It is primarily used to treat iron deficiency anemia by providing a source of iron that the body can use to produce red blood cells and improve hemoglobin levels. This  is often prescribed during pregnancy to prevent or treat iron deficiency anemia in expectant mothers. Folic acid in the medication is also important for preventing birth defects in the developing fetus.  In some cases, this may be recommended as a nutritional supplement to address iron and folic acid deficiencies caused by poor diet, certain medical conditions, or increased nutritional needs.
